Not wanting to lose face, he just puts on his uniform anyway and turns up to his literature classes as if he were a bona-fide freshman. He looks sure to get away with his charade too, until a chance encounter with the leader of a group of student radicals named Soratani (Itami) throws him way out of his depth.

中央某报女记者在华夏市采访时碰到了一堆稀奇事。在这里，大学毕业生有卖冰棍的，有代写状子的，有卖生煎的。原来，毕业生们因用人单位没有指标，无法顺利就业。受毕业生的委托，女记者奔波于各权力机关反映情况，但还是没有解决问题。最后，女记者的报道引起了重视，国务院领导接见了学生代表，并肯定了华夏大学的办学方针。消息传出，华夏大学的两届毕业生很快被全国各地的用人单位一抢而光。
