He travels to Syria to discover how, a thousand years ago, the astronomer and mathematician Al-Biruni estimated the size of the earth to within a few hundred miles of the correct figure. In Cairo, he tells the story of the physicist Ibn al-Haytham, who helped establish the science of optics. 　　Episode 3: The Power of Doubt. 　　Physicist Jim Al-Khalili concludes his investigation into the relationship between science and Islam. He shows how the scientific revolution that took place in 16th and 17th century Europe had its roots in the world of medieval Islam. He travels across Iran, Syria and Egypt to discover the astronomical advances made by Islamic scholars through their obsession with accurate measurement. He then visits Italy to see how those ideas permeated into the West and helped shape the works of Copernicus.

This extraordinary picture does not fit into any genre. It is a freak of nature, a acinematic oddity like no other. It took considerable bravery and imaginatio, or perhaps a bliss of ignorance as to the implication of one's actions (common to the artists), to make a film in which for the most part people recite the alphabet. The primer symbolises a key to the people communicate and perceive the world and traditions. The film is premeated with ugliness and lifelessness, which are extraordinary lit and beautifully captured by Jerzy Zielinski's camera. Tradition is dead, communication between people has become ossified in its banal formats, we all know the letters of the alphabet but cannot put them into sentences which would express out true selves.

The Story of Women and Art is a television documentary series, consisting of three one-hour episodes, on the history of women artists in Europe from the Renaissance onwards, first broadcast in the United Kingdom on BBC Two in May 2014. The series is presented by Professor Amanda Vickery. 　　Artists featured include Sofonisba Anguissola, Anne Seymour Damer, Angelica Kauffman, and the 17th-century Dutch paper cutter Joanna Koerten.
