Relu is a family man. He has two children, a wife and a double life. Seen through the eyes of his family, Relu Oncescu appears to be an ordinary taxi driver. No one suspects that Relu works as a collector for Capitanu', a local mobster. Neither of the two worlds (his family and the mafia) knows of the other's existence. Les ombres ("Shadows") is set in a low rent apartment in Paris' suburb, and depicts the life of a working class family. Pierre, the father, pretends to believe in the love of his wife, who acts as she was a diva. Franck, the son, plays the rocker and escapes as often as possible from the family life. Only Nathalie, the younger one, brings balance into this breaking-down family, and puts life back into the surrounding shadows.

In Manila, a solitary man from a far-away province lives in poverty. The only thing he has is a camera, and he stays at churches hoping people will hire him to take their photographs. During one day, he has three encounters that change his life: the first, with a smooth-talking young man who's standing by the church door who berates him for wasting his life in church, the second with a boy who offers to take his picture, and the third with a Mercedes-driving man who's been stuck in traffic and has no patience left. Is there any deliverance from the soullessness of the city?
