该剧描绘了上世纪90年代上海民众生活的全景式风貌，故事围绕老、中、青三代人的情感纠葛、奋斗打拼而展开，囊括了居民动迁、引资融资、留学生归国、股份制企改、婚外恋、上海发财梦等等时代焦点问题。

一九二七年南昌起义后，大病未愈的周恩来来到上海参与中共中央的领导工作，直到一九三一年撤往江西的中央苏区。这四年时间正是国民党白色恐怖最为残酷的关键时期。电视剧《周恩来在上海》真实生动地展现了周恩来在这段特殊时期所进行的特殊战斗，为党、为人民建立的鲜为人知的特殊功勋。

据说，知青返城的那年冬天，一场黑风暴刮了七天七夜，因为没有了胡杨林的阻挡，整个塔克拉玛干大沙漠仿佛都卷到了空中。在那个记忆中异常寒冷的冬天，成千上万的男女知青，从各个偏远的团场走出来，他们顶着风沙，沿着他们亲手修筑的公路或干渠，汇集到阿克苏地委的大楼前。1980年11月23日，他们开始绝食请愿…… 　　他们，从新疆千方百计地回到上海，后来又带着说不清的情感一次次地重回新疆。上海，新疆，其实都曾经是他们出发的地方。任何一代人，都不可避免地会打上那个时代的烙印。我们在这里所记录的这些人，他们，从十几岁一同踏上去往新疆的路开始，就注定了将会有着共同的经历、悲喜和命运，将会有着那么多平凡中的传奇；即使在他们纷纷返城的这三十年来，也依然如此。他们的人生脚步，他们的情感起伏，让他们成了永远的上海青年，同时也成了永远的新疆之子。

四十集大型电视文献纪实片《中国电影在上海》由著名演员张瑜亲自主持采访，以上海电影为切入点，记录了胡蝶、阮玲玉、金焰、龚稼农、白杨、赵丹、张瑞芳、秦怡、石挥、于洋、刘晓庆、濮存昕、陶虹、周迅等八十余位不同时期的中华影星或其亲朋故旧的回忆，以及谢晋、谢铁骊、程季华等著名导演、电影史专家的近距离访谈，荟萃了从三十年代的《春蚕》、《神女》到新时期的《城南旧事》、《庐山恋》、《喜盈门》、《芙蓉镇》等一百六十余部百年华语经典影片的华彩片断。

上海，曾经在二战期间庇护了约两万犹太人。其中很多人，成为其家族唯一的幸存者。遗憾的是，这段历史仍然有很多人不了解。为了给这段历史一个清晰的旁证，上海广播电视台电视新闻中心筹拍了这部纪录片，摄制组历时八个月，辗转德国、奥地利、美国和以色列等多国，采访了近40位曾经避难上海的犹太难民。其中，摄制组从各国的二战纪念馆、犹太博物馆、犹太人联合会等处获得了大量珍贵的档案资料，很多文献、照片和视频等，都是首度对外公开。这部纪录片的制作，是与时间的赛跑，更是向生命的致敬。
